About Miriam Engelhardt

Raised by classical musicians, Miriam Engelhardt developed at an early age a special relationship with music and a sensitivity to the ambiance and mood inspired by musical compositions. After years of research and teaching Engelhardt began her journey into the world of photography with special focus on creating montages from photographic images through digital manipulation. Each piece is an assembly of bits and snippets of the photographs she captures in her travels around the world as well as from the surroundings of her daily life. Parts of a composite may be printed separately, rephotographed, and recomposited into the image. The photographic nature of the fragments used to create each piece lends a realistic touch to what is otherwise an imaginary scene. The use of personal photographs allows her to draw on her experiences and confers a layer of intimacy to her work.
